There are three main components to the home building process:
Once you’ve designed your home to your liking, your sales agent will give you our upfront desktop price. The price we quote is for your structural contract price of your home.
After you’ve selected your home, it’s time to sign a contract. Here’s where you’ll review and approve drawings and begin planning for the design phase of your home. construction, including determining timelines, requesting permits, and preparing the land for building your home.
Before construction can begin on your home, there are a few necessary items that need to be completed. Some sites require clearing or grading before anything can happen. Soil tests, surveying and plot plans, as well as permits are just a few of the things that need to be addressed before construction begins. Our experienced project manager will provide our customers with the information they need to understand the entire process and each phase of construction.
Once you’ve selected your home plan, it’s time to customize it to your family’s lifestyle in our market leading Design Studio. You can customize any of our home plans or elevations (exteriors) to your preference. Not only do you have the opportunity to select brick, paint, floor coverings, roof color, and appliances, but you can also move walls, add closet space, add square footage, and almost anything else to make your home uniquely your own. Our Design Studio Specialists are there to help bring your vision to life while staying inside your budget! Visit our Design Studio here.
Once you’ve determined the structure of your home and made selections in our Design Studio, it’s time to meet the construction team! At this step, you’ll meet your builder where you will learn more about your dream home being built, including determining timelines, requesting permits, and preparing the land for building your home.
Once everything is prepared, it’s time to break ground! Once construction begins, you will be in constant communication with the Creative Homes team. Through “weekly update calls,” you will receive real time updates of the construction of your home from your builder and project manager. Below is a basic outline showing the milestones of your home being built.

Building on your own land typically provides the most flexibility and customization. It is also frequently more expensive, because you lose the economy of scale from building within a community. The pricing structures are completely different and should not be compared.
Lot Cost + Structure Price + Included Features = Price This is a great starting point to build a budget and establish a foundation.
Lot Cost + Structure Price + Included Features + Design Selections + Lot specific conditions = Price The price we provide to you includes the cost of the land itself, the expenses required to prepare the land for your new home, and the actual cost of the house, structural options, and design options you may choose. Site work expenses include items such as storm water management, engineering, permitting, water & sewer, site controls (construction entrance), sediment and erosion controls, and driveway.
You do not have to own land or have a contract on it to get pricing. If you are still looking for land, our team can guide you in the right direction to find a property. We recommend using Creative Homes Real Estate Group to help find you your perfect homesite. They are experts in finding land specific to new home construction.
We build in the greater metro area of the Twin Cities and Western Wisconsin. If you’re unsure if your lot qualifies, please reach out.
Financing for the On Your Lot program is through a Construction to Permanent Loan. There are two transactions that occur – one on land and one on the home. Both transactions are then combined into 1 settlement and 1 loan package. Settlement on the loan occurs at settlement of the lot, meaning, you take possession of the property at settlement and you establish the construction loan at the same time. Through the use of our preferred lender, Better Built Mortgage, additional incentives are available.
All plans will be evaluated with the project manager to determine if it’s possible to build your plan.
